People of the Parish

Studying the people buried at St Martin’s offers a unique glimpse into life in Leicester over the past 1,000 years.

Putting names to those who died long ago can be very difficult and most of the people we have excavated will remain nameless. In some rare instances we have been able to identify people by name. By researching and telling their life stories, we hope we can building connections between the past people of the parish and those who continue to inhabit the space today.

Research about the people of St Martin’s parish was carried for the Leicester Cathedral Revealed Project, a £12.7m restoration of the Grade II* Listed Cathedral, made possible with a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
