ULAS can add another distinction to its list of successes as co-director Richard Buckley has been named Current Archaeology’s ‘Archaeologist of the Year’. He receives the accolade for his work on the Dig for Richard III – which won the ‘Research Excavation of the Year’ award last year from the same publication.

The winners of the 6th annual Current Archaeology Awards were announced at an evening reception on 28 February at CA Live! 2014.

It follows the award of a Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Educationfor work surrounding the discovery of King Richard III, which Richard Buckley and members of the University received from Buckingham Palace at the end of February.

Every year, the Current Archaeology Awards celebrate the projects and publications that have made the pages of Current Archaeology over the 12 months, and the people judged to have made outstanding contributions to archaeology. These awards are voted for entirely by the public – there are no panels of judges.

The title of ‘Archaeologist of the Year’, also decided by public vote, celebrates the people judged to have made outstanding contributions to archaeology.
